Irish credit unions are set to roll out a home energy upgrade scheme worth €10 million as the sector seeks to diversify its appeal.

The scheme, which is provided in tandem with a series of Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) grants and administered by Retrofit Ireland (REIL), will mean the loans — ranging in value from €10,000 to €15,000 — going live before the end of the month. The loans are aimed at delivering energy efficient upgrades to existing homes, with the SEAI providing up to 35 per cent of the overall funding to each upgrade project.

Those projects will involve both an architect and a project manager, who will be assigned to each applicant to oversee the works from the outset until completion.
