Newry City Councillor Michael Savage has secured the support of the city’s Credit Union in setting up a Newry Repatriation Fund for murdered mother and daughter Giselle and Allison Marimon-Herrera.
The fund details have just been released with an official launch taking place on Monday at Newry Credit Union.
Councillor Savage said: “The people of the city have been asking if a local Newry Repatriation Fund could be set up to assist the family of Giselle and Allison.
“Their deaths have shocked the people of our city and district and our hearts go out to the family who are struggling to come to terms with this terrible tragedy from so far away.
“This fund will assist in covering flight and accommodation costs for family members who want to travel here and also assist with the repatriation of the bodies and other support the family may need.
“Newry people are generous people, the Kevin Bell Repatriation Fund is testimony to that and I have no doubt the citizens of this city and district will support this fund and rally around the family of Giselle and Allison who we are proud to have called citizens of this city.
“Online donations can be made immediately over the weekend and over the counter donations can be made at Newry Credit Union and collection boxes will also be placed in Newry Credit Union for anyone who wants to donate.
“Hopefully this Fund will help the family deal with the logistics associated with such a tragic event.
“A dark cloud descended over our city this week and the people of Newry want to express our deepest condolences to the family and help in whatever way we can.”
